Book Review – Imaginary Strangers by Minka Kent

Oooooh I love a good domestic thriller that involves a sociopathic heroine and I was captured by this one right from the very start! AND I love this author’s writing style. But even more fascinating was the creeeeepy thing that was happening to her, directly through her young daughter. And yep, creepy kids is my psych-thriller catnip too!! So I had BOTH!!! BLURB JOLT! YAY ME!!!

I learned sociopaths are not necessarily what we expect it to be (psycho-scary, or dangerous). I’m supposing that would be more along the lines of psychopaths. I’ve learned a ton about sociopaths from this book as the heroine learned about herself, through therapy. Fascinating! read more

Zoje Stage – Baby Teeth Series Reading Order

PSYCH-THRILLER ALERT!!! To be fair, I don’t think it has a series name as of yet (I just found out the sequel was up for preorder). Since Baby Teeth is so popular, I figured I’d give this post series reading order a temporary name in the meantime. P.S. Here’s my review of Baby Teeth 😉 Of course it’s TOTALLY my thing.

IF it becomes a full on series, it’s probably going to be called “Hanna” series, or who knows, but anyway, YAY!!! We have a sequel to the creepy psych-thriller “Baby Teeth” and I can’t wait to read it! read more

Book Review – The Pram (Creature Feature collection) by Joe Hill

The Pram (Creature Feature collection) by Joe Hill (son of Stephen King) – and I love his writing style!

It could have been great had it not been so short (but sometimes the short stories are the ones that leave a mark). In this case, the ending was… too sudden and obvious for me. Like the author had to end it somehow, so it was just… done with a matter-of-fact scene that didn’t send shivers up my spine.

Thought it did have me second-guessing… a certain something. 😉 read more

Book Review – The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward

The Last House on Needless Street <— Okay so it was good but not my 5-star level of greatness that I was hoping for. I wanted that bone-chilling, sleep with the lights on horror read, but this is not horror. It’s more of a psych-thriller (which I love, also) but I was expecting something… different.

Maryse: …this one was given some great recommendations in regards to the scare factor. Then I saw that Stephen King and another author I love (Sarah Pinborough) quoting how good it was, and I knew I had to give it a try. I’m in at about 20% and enjoying it. Not scary yet, but I definitely see where it will be soon. P.S. I LOVE the pet cat. 😉 read more

Book Review – Mothered: A Novel by Zoje Stage

Mothered: A Novel <— A psych-thriller by an author I’ve read before? YES PLEASE!! And yet… another creepy kid in the mix. I liked it!! When I saw the sort of… mediocre rating average it had, I wasn’t expecting much (though I hadn’t read any of the reviews as I wanted to go in blind). I figured, ehhh why not? I liked her book “Baby Teeth” so I was curious. P.S. Here’s my review of “Baby Teeth” in case you missed it.

Sure enough, the writing style, the flow, and the main character’s POV was interesting enough to keep me reading. I loved “living life” through her eyes. Life during a pandemic, and lockdown, and all of the insecurities that go along with it… plus, a new roommate (her mother!!). One she has a strained relationship with. OH YES. I was in! read more
