YAY ME!!! The trilogy is complete, it sounds right up my dark and creepy alley, and my scary-loving fellow readers (and even some of my non-horror friends) right here HIGHLY recommend it!
Jan130: Justin Cronin is a terrific writer. I’m not normally a horror fan either, but to me these books are more adventure/ sci-fi/ post-apocalypse genre than horror. I’ve re-started The Passage and am fully hooked again already. Wow. That wonderful feeling of diving into an incredible, memorable book is coming over me again. There is NOTHING IN THE WORLD like reading a really good book. I’m a happy addict. Sigh ….

Dystopian/post apocalyptic, this series sounds like the perfect book adventure, and I am putting this one on the top of my TBR list. I can’t wait for that adrenaline rush!

Jan130: Yeh The Passage is epic. It’s a huge read, so be warned!. Starts off pretty conventional sci-fi thriller but you’ve gotta stick with it. It just takes off and carries you along with it. Loved this book. *Something is coming* (said in a whisper….. Oh yeh! Maybe I’d better dust off my copy and do a reread before City of Mirrors is out. OMG now I’m getting all excited (in a booky way) lol.
Lisa: So glad to find someone who loved The Passage as much as I did. And Im not even into horror. Justin Cronin is the master of world building dont you think. Sometimes I recall a character or part of the book and it feels like I watched it in a movie…the visuals are so strong.
Ela: The Passage sounds awesome but one of the categories is “Horror”, is that correct????? Jan130, please advise …I just need confirmation it’s not “horror” and won’t remind me of The Bad Ones *full body shiver*….eeeep I still can’t get some of those images out of my mind!!!!!
Jan130: …some might categorise some aspects of The Passage as horror, but to to me it’s not really horror as in Pet Sematary or The Shining type of thang. Being as *weak* as I am about scary books/films I wouldn’t have been able to read it otherwise. (I was silly enough to read Stephen King’s Pet Sematary as an impressionable teen and it literally gave me nightmares.) I haven’t read The Passage in a while, but my overriding memories of it are as a wonderful, mysterious, epic, eventful, adventure read, not as horror. I absolutely loved it. I say go for it.
Jenn: I read The Passage just a few weeks ago. It was a good book, but a strange one. I have to say that it is unlike any dystopian book that I have read before. Just think military experiments gone wrong…. very wrong.
Lisa: The Passage might fall into a horror category in some respects (as Jan130 mentioned its not Stephen King style horror at all) but I would describe as an apocalyptic world building epic. The vampires are NOT Twilight or BDB hotties but a new species of predator. But it has elements we love….like an awesome kicking asses and taking no prisoners heroine in Alicia. And characters so well developed you’ll miss them. Its a tale of survival. I loved it.

This IS being made into a movie…. Ridley Scott and Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) are evidently at the helm.
This is THAT book….the one I alwsys recommend to friends. In fact this was the book that got my hubby reading again after years and its colossal. He still says its the best book he’s ever read.
I love when my book-friends have “THAT” book that they loved that hard. Lets me know I’m in for something good.
